The story of AI in games is one of tight integration, as games provide tightly defined spaces in which artificial intelligence excels. This video traces the history of this collaboration, from computers like Deep Blue and Alphago, which beat us at chess and Go, to the AI director of a game like Alien Isolation. However, there is much controversy within game design about where AI should go in the future, whether the systems we currently have should simply be expanded or whether we should start incorporating learning automatic, procedural systems and dynamic narrative authors. Perhaps by studying the history of AI, we can gain insight into its future evolution.
