In this #EngShort, we examine the role of #LocalAuthorities in addressing the challenge of the #STEMskills shortage. The UK economy is losing around 1.5 billion a year due to the lack of skills in STEM fields. This is due to unfilled vacancies, skills shortages and reduced productivity, not only in big cities, but also in smaller rural towns across the UK. Local authorities can have discussions between schools, colleges, universities and businesses to ensure that the right skills and training are provided through appropriate experience. If not, how can local authorities help address the UK’s STEM #SkillsGap? Comment below to let us know your thoughts.
