The post NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) era has completely changed the way we approach research, particularly in the field of biomedical sciences. Today, the complete sequencing of an organism's genome is done in a few days, providing researchers with thousands of genes and therefore thousands of protein sequences. But to go further, we need to understand the three-dimensional architecture of protein molecules. The current course would aim to train students to gain knowledge about the structural units forming biological macromolecules, their architectural hierarchies, the basics of structural biology techniques, their advantages and disadvantages, how to read and visualize 3D structure files, etc. The course also includes an introduction to molecular dynamics and case studies explaining the likely application of the knowledge acquired. But more importantly, this course attempts to help connect biological events to understand how biological macromolecules are generated, folded, and become functional. Understanding these fundamentals would help students pursue advanced courses such as advanced structural biology, macromolecular crystallography, electron cryomicroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, structure-based drug design, protein engineering, etc. In summary, this course would open the door. of modern research-related courses in the field of drug design and macromolecule-based engineering.
