A webinar Churches rely on nature.

We live on an incredible planet. The number of species currently alive was recently estimated at 8.7 million, give or take 1.3 million, but an estimated 95% of all species that have ever lived have become extinct over time.

As Christians, we believe that God not only created everything, but is actively involved in its creation. It is therefore important to understand how ecosystems work, how ecological communities are structured, how species come and go, and what impact humans have on the world.

Scientific understanding helps us to be “global”* and to be effective managers. *(title of a book by Reverend Dave Bookless)

Speaker: Godfrey Armitage is the Diocesan Environment Officer for the Diocese of Coventry; he taught ecology and conservation at the University of Warwick for some years and is a tutor for the Certificate of Christian Rural and Environmental Studies (CRES).
