You probably know a lot of people who work really hard, do a good job but don't seem to get promoted. Getting promoted is like playing a game: once you know the rules, playing the games becomes much easier and you get promoted.

Advancing your career takes a lot of work, but hard work alone is not enough. You also need to work smart, determine the skills and experience needed to move to the next level, and proactively seek out that experience.

Advancing your career is very helpful if you have a clear career goal. You focus your efforts in important areas to achieve a single goal rather than not getting the most out of your efforts because you don't know where you're going.

To advance in your career, you must do good work. Doing a good job is the entry point to getting promoted. How you do your job and meet or exceed your goals is equally important and I'm giving you a list of behaviors that help you.

Advance your career by ensuring that everyone's perception of you matches the level to which you are trying to be promoted. Integration is crucial.

Your career development is strongly influenced by your manager. With a strong relationship with your manager, your career will progress much faster. One bad relationship and you'll be lucky to see any progress. Proactively establish a good relationship with your manager.

When thinking about how to get a promotion at work, the strength of your relationships with your manager's peers and managers is also important. This group will decide who gets promoted. If they know and like you, your chances of promotion at work are much higher.

Finally, choosing the game requires effort and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone, learn and adapt. Being promoted also means giving up things that have a personal impact. Continuing to learn and adapt requires drive, ambition and motivation. How are you going to increase them for the right reasons?
