Psychological abuse is a serious form of psychological trauma. This is otherwise known as mental or psychological abuse; however these terms refer to the same concept. Unlike physical violence, psychological violence does not leave visible scars. That doesn't mean it isn't damaging. When an abuser emotionally abuses a victim, they use several forms of manipulation to control the person.

Abusers destroy their victims' self-esteem to the point that they feel worthless. When a victim feels they don't deserve love, they are at the mercy of their abuser. The abuser may engage in name-calling, shaming, and telling the abused person that they are unlovable. Threats account for a large part of emotional or mental abuse. The abuser tells his victim that she won't be able to do better or find love.

The victim often hides the mental or emotional abuse from friends and family because they are ashamed. However, there are signs that psychological abuse is occurring. If you suspect that someone you love is being abused, don't ignore that intuition. Check in with them and see if they need help. You could save a life.
