Authors: Hester Volten, José Miguel Rubio Iglesias, Jennifer Shirk and Kim de Rijck
Presenters: José Miguel Rubio Iglesias, Kim de Rijck, Jennifer Shirk, Hester Volten
Summary:
This workshop reviews the work of environmental management and regulatory agencies, in the United States and Europe, to support citizen science in policy contexts. The session opens with perspectives from several U.S. agencies working to provide infrastructure for effective projects, illustrated by a regional case study. Participants will then learn about the activities carried out by European EPAs, in particular the Citizen Science Interest Group and the air quality initiatives of the RIVM (Netherlands). The workshop will close with the presentation of a recently published European Commission document on citizen science and environmental monitoring, which is aimed at both public authorities and citizen science communities.
